Dancing Butterfly Socks was released as part of the May 2019 Knitcrate Sock subscription box! It was great fun designing these playful sock for the vivid shades of Vidalana Delight Sport yarn.
These cheerful ankle-length socks feature flirty butterflies dancing among garter ridges. Slipped stitches are used to place loose strands on the front of the knitting to be later caught up to form each adorable butterfly. The self published version of this pattern provides a choice of three butterfly charts, each utilizing a different surface technique to create the butterflies. “Butterfly Wings” uses slipped stitches to place loose strands on the front of the fabric which are later caught in a knit stitch to create wings. “Butterfly Fans” uses elongated stitches to draw loops over the surface of the fabric to be finished with purled edging. “Butterfly Bows” uses wrapped and dropped stitches to create long floats which are later manipulated into tied bows.
