My father's superstition against grey mittens recently inspired me to recreate my family's Lunenburg fishing mittens. Using 75-year-old yarn handspun by my great-grandmother and my grandmother's sparse notes, I reverse-engineered a pattern, knit a pair of replica mitts, and felted them using some creative northern methods. The project was a fun experiment which I documented for the Canadian online magazine Digits and Threads*.
